In our home at this time of year we have a simple crib scene to remember the birth of Jesus. The crib was bought at Wells Cathedral (Somerset UK) nearly 20 years ago when, with our first born, we had just moved from London after 11 years to the West Country to start a new chapter in our lives
Some people consider that evidence suggests Jesus may have been born on a different date than the 25th December; some people think he may even have been born at a different time of year.

We as a family choose to see the 25th of December as Jesus' ''honourary'' birthday; just like the Queen of England has her ''real'' birthday on the day she came into this world - but we as citizens of the country over which she reigns actually celebrate her ''honourary' birthday which is some entirely different date unrelated to the date she was born.
Does it really matter if the 25th December is Jesus ''real'' or ''honourary'' birthday as long as we take the opportunity to celebrate the most important event in the history of the world - the birth of God's son, our saviour and the first born of God's New Covenant generation?
One final thought building upon my first born's post of 23rd December 2013:-
Jesus was the first born of God's New Covenant Generation. In the book of Romans, we learn from Paul that through the in filling of the Holy Spirit we are adopted into God's New Covenant Generation, that we are the children of God and (mind bogglingly) therefore joint heirs with Jesus:
Romans 8: 15b, 16 & 17a; ''.....but ye have received the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself bears witness with our Spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.....''
Have a very happy and spiritually prosperous Christmas.

ReplyDeleteDear Friend,
DeleteMany thanks for taking the time to comment. Really pleased if you found it useful.
I think the 'kingfisher'(although difficult to make out) is actually an angel above the infant Jesus.
Very Best Wishes
